Derryl Kinnell
Derryl spent the majority of his undergraduate career in a clinical research lab where he investigated psychological and social predictors of emotion regulation difficulties in adolescents and how parenting styles influenced transmission of trauma. This motivated him to seek further education in mental health and determine how he can play a role in serving the community. A few of Derryl's therapeutic modalities include: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helping clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors, Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Incorporating mindfulness techniques to promote self-awareness and stress reduction, and Client-Centered Therapy: Providing a supportive and empathetic environment for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions. One of my strongest passions is being a resource to others, while gaining insight from their unique stories. "I believe that counseling is a great tool for individuals, couples, and families to build the skills to have more meaningful relationships and manage their mental health throughout their daily lives. I understand that seeking help can be a challenging step, so my goal is to walk alongside you in your personal journey and promote growth as we explore your past experiences and future goals. Together, we will work towards your goals and empower you to make positive changes in your life." Derryl earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Mississippi State University and his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University.
